The difference between peace and harmony

The difference between peace and harmony

"If the inner-heart is used, it is impossible to be at war, for harmony prevails. The mind thinks peace, but war is never too far from peace. The inner-heart, on the other hand, is harmonious, and thus war is impossible."

Serge Benhayon The Way of Initiation, p 381

Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on September 21st. The UN General Assembly declared this as a day devoted to strengthening ideals of peace, both within and among nations.

The International Day of Peace was established in 1981 and, in 2001, the UN General Assembly established September 21st as an annual day of non-violence and cease-fire. The United Nations invites all nations to honour a cessation of hostilities during the Day, and to otherwise commemorate the Day through education and public awareness on issues related to peace.

As stated in the above quote from Serge Benhayon, when you hear the word peace it almost comes with the word war. What if harmony is what we are truly seeking and not peace? When people get together in the name of peace they do so at times with a fervour which is not harmonious. Even the language above “striving for peace” contains a tension.

When compared to war peace feels amazing but what if there is a tolerance beneath that peace that we are allowing to remain unchecked that festers until the next outbreak? The world was created in harmony and human beings are meant to live with that harmony and with each other. How we are living is a long way from harmony.

Why peace is not enough

Harmony is what we are looking for and peace is actually an imposter and not what it is made out to be.

"Our goal should be harmony not peace. Not truly knowing the difference between peace and harmony is a great example of how we accept a fragment of truth, which is what peace is, but see also that the whole, which is to be harmonious, is easily the greater and whole truth since in harmony there is no momentary existence of anything, but the true grace for oneself and thus for all others – permanently so."

Serge Benhayon The Way of Initiation, p 126
