Chilli carob balls

Looking for a snack or dessert option with a difference? Then this is it - carob with a tang - sugar free and the kids will love it.

SERVES: 10-20 PREP TIME: 20 mins

Ingredients

  • 1½ cups mixed nuts
  • 3 tablespoons carob powder
  • ½ medium chilli, de-seeded
  • ½ cup moist dates, de-seeded and chopped

Method

  1. Place all the ingredients in a food processor and blend until well combined, adding a small amount of boiling water if blending is difficult.
  2. Using both hands, roll into small balls approximately 4cm across.
  3. Ready to enjoy immediately and can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days or in the freezer.

Inspiration

  • Add more dates if you would like it sweeter or more chilli if you would like a bit more ‘bite’!
  • Try experimenting with different nuts or exchange the carob with cacao powder
  • To finish off with a bit of style, roll the balls in roasted chopped hazelnuts or sesame seeds
