Valentine’s day – is this a true expression of love?

Valentine’s Day is celebrated in many countries around the world on 14th February. There is no defined historic event that led to why we celebrate Valentine’s Day. If you search on line for Valentine’s Day you will see many myths and legends dating back throughout the centuries. It has evolved into an occasion in which lovers express their love for each other by way of presenting flowers, offering chocolates and sending greeting cards known as ‘valentines’.

But is this a true expression of love?

Teenage girls these days are bombarded with the message that it is all about them having a boyfriend as if they are not ok if they do not. This audio was first presented by Natalie Benhayon at the Girl to Woman Festival to bring awareness to young women that love first must start with self, rather than them constantly feeling they need to look outside of themselves to feel they are enough.

What Natalie presents applies to all of us. Valentine’s Day is one of many opportunities to express the love that we are and feel for others regardless of whether we are in an intimate relationship or not.

Making Valentine’s Day about love

The meaning of Valentine’s Day has been lost in commercialisation and is wrongly defined by being in a relationship. Instead it could be an opportunity for us to express the love that we are and feel for others regardless of whether or not we are in a relationship.

"Love is spherical, it is for all equally: You cannot love one and not another, for if you think you can and or believe that you do, it is not love that you are and therefore, the one you claim to have love for is nothing more than the object of an emotional attachment."

Serge Benhayon Esoteric Teachings and Revelations Volume I, ed 1, p 668
