We get hooked by emotions because they become self-serving energetic rushes that the personality erroneously believes it requires. This is because it, the personality, unknowingly chooses to allow them in, creating the chemical imbalance within the physiology that craves the fuel it has under false attraction become addicted to. This is the sad merry-go-round the personality finds itself in.
