For most people it has become normal to be doing one thing and at the same time, to be thinking about something completely unrelated. Distracted, wandering mind, not paying attention, unfocussed, on autopilot and checked out – these are just some of the words we have in our vocabulary that refer to this ability of ours to be mentally ‘elsewhere’.
The opposite of this way of being is conscious presence, which is when we keep our thoughts with what we are doing. In this we are making the choice to bring our mind and body together, as one.
